Samples will be subject to different requirements depending on where they are coming from.

Please review the below before preparing to send your samples.

Intrastate (within WA)

Shipments coming from within Western Australia are not subject to any reporting requirements except in the following cases:

  • Movement of palm plants/foliage from the Broome area.
  • Movement of bees, bee products, and apiary equipment from the Broome area.
  • Movement of banana plants/parts (except fruit) and soil from the Shire of Carnarvon and the Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley.
  • Movement of cut flowers, foliage, fruit, plants, and vegetables from the ORIA/Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley.

Please contact eDNA Frontiers if any of the above are relevant to your samples.

Interstate

Quarantine WA requirements

**Relevant to raw samples (e.g., soil, sediment, water, biofoul), water filters, DNA extractions, tissue**

Domestic shipments coming from outside of Western Australia are subject to reporting requirements under Quarantine WA regulations.  This is achieved through the completion and provision of one of the following documents:

  1. Notice of Intent (NOI) to import subject to import permit, OR
  2. Notice of Intent (NOI) to import a declared pest or prescribed potential carrier into Western Australia.

NOTE: #1 is required for samples that necessitate an import permit due to Biosecurity Regulations (issued separately – contact eDNA Frontiers for more information), and #2 is for all other samples. Both versions of the NOI forms can be found below.

On the NOI, please list the Delivery Address as:

Please ensure the following is undertaken prior to shipment:

  1. Submit your samples online using our Sample Submission portal. This will provide you with the Sample Submission form.
  2. Notice needs to be given to Quarantine WA a minimum of 24 hours in advance of shipment (details on how to do this are provided on the NOI).
  3. On the outside of the shipment (and the Con Note if possible) there must be a clear notice saying:

Attn: Quarantine WA – Samples Enclosed for Registered Laboratory #W0693.

Documents that should be accessible on the OUTSIDE of the shipment are:

    • The NOI (and if relevant, the import permit), and
    • The Sample Submission form (provided through the Sample Submission portal)

Place additional copies of all documents INSIDE the shipment.

Ensure your couriers are advised that the shipment needs to be inspected by Quarantine WA.

International

Australian Biosecurity requirements

**Relevant to raw samples (e.g., soil, sediment, water, biofoul), water filters, DNA extractions, non-preserved tissue, archaeological bone fragments**

 

Shipments coming from outside of Australia are subject to reporting requirements under Federal Biosecurity Regulations. The shipment must be accompanied by:

  • An import letter (eDNA Frontiers will provide this prior to shipment)
  • An import permit (eDNA Frontiers will provide this prior to shipment)
  • A Sample Submission form (this will be provided through our Sample Submission portal)

 

Please ensure the following is undertaken prior to shipment:

  1. Submit your samples to us online through our Sample Submission portal.
  2. On the outside of the shipment there must be a clear notice saying:

Attn: Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment

The following must be accessible on the OUTSIDE of the shipment.

    • The Import Permit
    • The Import Letter
    • The Sample Submission form

Place additional copies of all documents INSIDE the shipment.
