Conducting a full biodiversity assessment using traditional methods can be time consuming and requires taxonomic expertise. At eDNA Frontiers, we can take your environmental sample and, using a technique called metabarcoding, we can compile a list of organisms that have deposited DNA into the environment. We have a huge number of assays to choose from – both broad and taxon-group specific – and will happily work with you to determine what would be most suitable for your study. The metabarcoding technique is useful for:

• Biodiversity assessments: Because we can target a number of taxonomic groups with this technique, we can provide a biodiversity audit for the purpose of baselining, management, food-web reconstructions, and much more.
• Biosecurity monitoring: In biosecurity, often there is more than one species that is of concern for management. Metabarcoding using eDNA can deliver an early indication of the presence of multiple invasive species, providing responsible parties with a cost-effective way of determining which areas require management.
